We are moving from Naperville, IL to Raleigh, NC - as a single mother w/3 children I was wondering if it is possible to follow the moving truck to ensure we don't get lost? If so, how many days would it take to get there and how many stops on average do you think there would be?

Mary,

The moving vans will probably be picking up other customers in route. So following the moving van is not going to be a practical option for you. I would recommend going to Mapquest.com. You can get detailed directions and maps to your new home there.

If you order an entire moving van, we can help you like this. Please call our relocation specialists at 800-876-6839 as this is a bit more complicated than your normal move.

Thanks,

from Alex T. in CA - February 5, 2010
Hi, Is it possible to transport a 125cc scooter and other furniture with a cross country move? Is the cost covered with space rented or is their an additional charge?

Alex,

You can certainly ship your scooter as part of your household shipment at no additional charge.

Movex

from Juli-Ann L. in TX - February 5, 2010
What if I reserve 8 feet but I only use 6 feet,do I get a refund for the difference??

Juli,

We do not refund for space ordered that is not used. You can really only do this if you use a freight company. But remember that they will take your furniture to a warehouse and the repack and load freight in behind it.

I am moving back to bridgeport ct. I need to get a truck in bpt go to east hartford ct and back to bpt ct how much would it cast to rent the a small truck

Bianca,

We only provide services for state to state moves. You would need to work with a local mover for the type of move you listed.

Movex

from Liz R. in CA - January 29, 2010
Do the trucks come with pads to cover the furniture.

Liz,

Yes. All of the trucks are equipped with furniture blankets, tie-down straps, loading ramps, and a dolly. They are also air-ride so your shipment does not bounce its way across the country!

Movex

from Marlo L. in CA - January 11, 2010
Does it matter if your moving date is on the weekend or weekday? Also Is it more expensive in the summer during the peak vacation time? Do you need to be present when truck is delivered?

Marlo,

It does not matter which day of the week that you move with Movex. Other movers are more expensive on the weekends. We are not. That being said, we also have a finite capacity so the weekends fill up fastest. Make your reservations early!

The rates are higher in the Summer due to high demand.

You will need to have someone available to receive your goods when they arrive. It can be a friend or family member as long as we have your permission to release your goods to them.

Movex

from Kymm J. in NV - January 9, 2010
Where do we find an acutal box to put our king mattress/box springs in for shipping long haul? The matress plastic covers won't meet the requirement. Thanks! We are looking to add on from Little Rock, AR to Las Vegas, NV

Kymm,

I would go to a UPS or packaging store. They are the only ones that carry those big boxes. We look forward to helping you with your move.

Movex

from Pat W. in PA - January 3, 2010
Can you take me and a small (Cargo-van) household from Philly 19134
to melbourne, fl 32935 and how much would it be?

We can take your small shipment, but we cannot have passengers on the moving trucks.

Again, the quote calculator should be able to give you a rate. If you have any trouble with it, please call us at 800-876-6839.

Movex

from Aaron L. in NJ - December 29, 2009
What types of payment do you accept? Am I able to book something and then pay with a check? Let me know. Thank you.

Aaron,

We accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. If you want to pay with a check, it would need to be a certified check and would need to be in advance of your move taking place.

Movex

from Pat W. in PA - December 29, 2009
Do you move crated pets (with a very small household package and one person) from Philly to Melbourne, FL?

from Margaret N. in NY - December 28, 2009
I am moving from ny to fl. How long do I have to load and unload the truck? Also, Can I pack a ride-on lawn mower and a personal watercraft in the moving truck?

Margaret,

The amount of time you have to load and unload varies with how much space you have reserved. Your rep can get you an exact number of hours, but we allow plenty of time for your shipment. You can load a mower and personal watercraft, but the gas needs to be drained out of them.

Movex

from Eric S. in CA - December 12, 2009
I already have a move confirmed with you in a couple of months. Do you provide any type of load bars or retainers to keep things in place? Also is there places to hook ratchet straps to inside the truck. Please let me know. Thank you.

Eric,

Yes, yes, and yes. A fully-equipped moving truck will come to your home. It will have a ramp, dolly, load bars, straps (and places to hook the straps), and furniture pads. When you move with Movex, you just need to be ready to load and unload... everything else listed above is provided.

Movex

from j B. in CA - December 12, 2009

I am trying to move a small amount of furniture from my townhome in Fort Collins, CO to the Philadelphia, PA area. Does your company allow multiple families in one truck in order to cut costs? Could I add my load to a larger load?

Julian,

The moving vans have moveable walls in them so that we can give you a small, private compartment. That is how we offer our services at these low prices, we are putting multiple shipments on each big truck.

Movex

from Loren W. in NY - December 1, 2009

from melissa O. in RI - November 20, 2009
Hi. My father is moving from RI to the area of Clear Water, Fl and I am trying to get information on moving truck rentals. We were looking to drive down ourselves, but if the prices is right we would also consider having it driven. He would probably need a 16 foot truck-enough to move an apartment. Please contact me a.s.a.p. with a quote. We are looking to pack up the truck on Wed, Nov 25th. Thank you

Melissa,

We actually provide the moving van, driver, all of the necessary equipment, and door-to-door service; often for less money than it would cost for a standard truck rental. If you fill out the form at Movex.com, a quote will be sent within 3 minutes.

Movex

from Peter C. in CA - November 20, 2009
does truck come with ramp to load unload with

Peter,

YES! Movex is the only self-service mover that provides loading ramps, furniture blankets, tie-down straps, and a dolly! Why move your furniture on a junky freight truck when you can use the proper equipment for the same money? :-)

Movex

from Sarah B. in CA - November 9, 2009
If we have limited space for a truck due to our apartment complex is there a way we can move it if we need to OR can the driver stay while we load?

Sarah,

Part of the beauty of a Movex move is that the driver will stay there while you load. He can move the truck if necessary and, when finished, he will leave. That way, you don't have all of your stuff sitting in an unlocked truck overnight (like our competition).

Movex

from Shannon A. in CA - October 20, 2009
I see in your info that you include furniture pads with your moving package. How many pads do you provide?

As a rule of thumb, we provide 3 pads per linear foot of space ordered.

from wayne B. in PA - October 15, 2009
Can you move a riding lawn mower?

Yes. You just need to drain the gas out of it prior to loading.

Movex

from Lurvie J. in IL - October 11, 2009
can a truck with a trailer hitch be rented to move a 27foot long trailer home ?

Lurvie,

We actually only rent you space on moving vans. The driver and everything is included. We are not, however, a truck rental company in the sense of renting a truck to you for you to drive.

Movex

from Diana S. in AZ - October 11, 2009
How much lead time do you require before a moving truck can be scheduled? Can you provide a truck on short notice?

Diana,

Our extensive network allows us to schedule trucks within 48 hours, sometimes less depending on location. We may need some flexibility on your part so that we can fit you into the schedule.

Movex

from Liz C. in ID - October 7, 2009
Do you provide service to Alaska?

Liz,

We do not provide service to Alaska at this time.

Movex

from Mary L. in FL - October 4, 2009
I have a grand piano, how could this be handled?

Mary,

All of the trucks are equipped with loading ramps, furniture blankets, tie-down straps, and a dolly... which is what is needed to secure and pad your piano. However, our recommendation would be to hire a mover that specializes in moving pianos and have them load it onto the moving van arranged by Movex. Grand pianos require special care that only a professional should provide.

Movex

from Rene H. in AZ - October 2, 2009
I'am just looking right now and weighing my options. So! Can you me move from Flagstaff Az. to Baltimore Md, adn can you give me some idea on cost?

Movex

from kara H. in MI - October 2, 2009
Can i rent a cargo van one way to south florida

Kara,

We can rent you the equivalent space on a moving truck. We do not actually do traditional truck rentals. We arrange for the truck, fuel, driver, moving equipment, and door-to-door transportation. You do the loading and unloading.

Movex

from Jackie J. in CA - October 2, 2009

Thomas,

I need to move an incubator with live plants inside it from Pittsboro, NC to Bloomington, IN. The incubator should be operational during the transit time via on board generator. I have a permit to move these plants across state lines. Can you do it.

Bill,

You would need to call a refridgerated carrier that is permitted for having generators on board. We only offer service for household goods and other sensitive items (like medical equipement, etc.).

Movex

from Kerry M. in MA - September 11, 2009
Does the 12 feet of space I will be utilizing offer any internal options for clothes hanging?

Kerry,

You will need to box your clothing. If you want to keep your handing clothes hanging, you can get wardrobe boxes that are designed for that from any packaging store or Uhaul store.

Movex

Traci,

Yes, we service most locations in the "lower 48".

Movex

from Gary W. in MI - September 8, 2009
How high are your loading doors off the ground. How many hours do I get to load/unload a 53' truck

The loading doors are anywhere from 36 to 48 inches off the ground depending on the model of the rig. All vans are equipped with loading ramps that are appropriately sized to minimize angle of ascent.

Movex

from Josh M. in FL - September 8, 2009

Some of the trucks do have liftgates, but that is not a part of our normal service offering. Each truck will have loading ramps available.

Do you have a vehicle to move cut and split firewood (about 10 cord) if I load and unload

Movex

from Jasmine G. in GA - August 27, 2009
When you ship do you combine multiple shipments on one truck or would my personal shipment be the only one?

Jasmine,

Each customer gets their own section on the truck. These are seperated with plywood dividers. The driver stays with the shipments at all times to keep anyone from getting into the wrong compartment.

Movex

from robin Z. in PA - August 17, 2009

We just do household moving. You need to call a freight company that is set up to handle more industrial type moves.

Movex

from Darcie T. in CA - August 17, 2009
do we need to provide anything to create the bulkhead? and is that considered part of our footage?

Darcie,

Movex will provide you with the bulkhead. In fact, our driver will help you put it up also. Each van is also equipped with furniture blankets, loading ramps, tiedown straps, and a dolly.

The bulkheads are not very thick and are nit considered part of your footage.

Movex

from Dennis C. in WY - August 17, 2009
I am considering a move to Anchorage from Eastern WY. Do you drive the AK highway or do you put the trailer on a barge or ferry? What restrictions do you have if you have to take the AK highway going through Canada? I have been told by a realestate agent in AK to use the Truck and Trailer to move as it is locked and I can move my guns and ammunition. If I took a U-Haul up the AK highway I could not move my guns and ammunition through Canada and would need to take the ferry from seattle to avoid Canada.

Dennis,

I am sorry to give you a short answer to your long question, but we currently do nit have service to Alaska. Sorry.

Movex

from cheryl J. in IN - August 10, 2009
I have been getting quotes from several moving companies. Some offer loading and unloading and some are self service. My question is why do you charge by the linear foot when most companies charge by the pound?
What happens if I reserve 15 linear feet and need 20 when the truck shows up?

Cheryl,

Moving companies want to charge by the pound because there is absolutely no way you can control your cost as a consumer using this method. If they estimate 4000# and end up picking up 5000#, they will charge you 20% more and demand it in cash before they unload. It is a rip-off.

With Movex, you know your cost exactly and your cost per foot if you go over. So if you load 15ft and need 20ft, you will know exactly what that 20ft will cost (if it is available). OR, you have the option of only loading the 15ft and paying exactly what you were quoted. Movex has no hidden surprises like a weight-based mover has.

Movex

from Jennifer W. in WI - August 8, 2009
Our space estimator says we need 15 feet of linear space, your truck is 18 feet, would you rent out the remaining space. What I am really trying to figure out is if you move our items several times like some other moving companies.
My sister's items were moved and rearranged 3 times and several items were broken (a different company than yours)

Jennifer,

Our trucks are actually 53' long, so several customers share a vehicle. The trucks are broken down into seperate compartments so that everyone loads and unloads their own stuff without intermingling the goods. That is part of the beauty of the Movex system as it eliminates damage from over handling.

Movex

from Kim T. in UT - August 5, 2009
Why don't you service in-state moves?

Kim,

Great question with a couple of answers. A lot of in-state moves are regulated by the individual states. Movex would have to be licensed in each state. As is, we have a national Federal license that allows us to participate in interstate commerce without further licensing by the individual states.

Secondly, most in-state moves do not make financial sense. While our prices are very low, we can't compete with renting a Uhaul for $19.95 and paying a mileage charge. Uhaul is no bargain for out of state moves. Most of the time, Movex can move you cheaper.

Movex

from marlene R. in NY - August 3, 2009
How do you transport a large austrian crystal chandelier?

Marlene,

We certainly can and are the only company that does self-service moving that provides air-ride moving vans, not spring-ride freight trucks. That being said, you should still have a professional crate your chandelier prior to shipping.

Movex

from Aundrea J. in NC - August 3, 2009
I am moving from california to north carolina ... I have some of my things i.e. (clothes, shoes) in plastic bags, do they have to be packed in boxes in order for me to pack in your truck? Also I received a quote, does that have to be paid in full before you drive?
Thank you!

Aundrea,

Since you are loading and unloading the goods, you can certainly leave them in plastic bags.

We require a 10% (fully refundable) deposit to reserve your moving truck. The balance is due on the day of loading.

Movex

from walt H. in AR - July 31, 2009
Do you move college students from one state to another? I would have a few pieces of furniture but a lot of stuff.

Walt,

Sure we do! We have some great options for small moves that are very economical. Fill out the request form at the top of this page and a quote will be emailed to you.

Hi, I am moving from Ohio to South Carolina. I have a lot of packaged frozen beef and hog to move. Can I use dry ice to transport the meat, and if so, what type of containers may I use? Thanks a lot!

JR,

You need to call a freight carrier like ABF Upack. We only ship household goods. They will be able to help you with your frozen beef and hog shipping.

Thanks,

from Bruce A. in FL - July 29, 2009
Movex moved my wife and I to Spring Hill, FL from Carmichael (Sacramento) CA in June 2002, a PERFECT and inexpensive move. Yesterday, a friend of mine asked me about you, but I couldn't remember the name of your firm. I tried looking you up in Tampa under movers on Google. NO JOY! You used to have a partnership with my firm, MRINetwork, formerly Management Recruiters Internat'l, via FAS in Scottsdale, AZ. ARE you still in biz? Are you still partnering with FAS and MRI? If so, I may have some biz for you.

Bruce,

You bet we are still in business. With our new pricing structure, we are the most competitive option for moving across country, bar none. Please feel free to give Jeff Voth, our VP of sales, a call at 800-876-6839. He can help you with corporate account setup.

Sir

I need to move a number of large potted plants to Beaumont TX, and suggestions.

Gary,

You have to have special permits from the state agricultural commission to move potted plants. We also recommend that you use a climate controlled truck as plants will die in the heat this time of year.

Movex

from Lewis W. in PA - July 14, 2009
Is it possible for me to rent a cargo van in the Philadelphia suburbs for a 1-way delivery to Pittsburgh?

Lewis,

Sorry. That is not the type of service that we offer. You need to be moving from one state to another and Movex always does the driving.

Movex

from mark E. in CA - July 14, 2009
I looked at many of the Q & A's. One question I didn't see asked or answered addressed this: It was explained that costs are kept down by three clients sharing a load, etc. Is the cost extravagant if you do not have two other clients contracted who are going my direction & to transport their items along with my load? If we are the only one heading in the direction of our destination, how expensive does the trip get then?

Mark,

Good question. All of our pricing is set and the rate that we give you will not change. We move several thousand customers a year, so there are very few times that we cannot get more than one customer going in the same general direction. Some customers don't want to share a truck and find it entirely affordable to just take the whole moving van for their order. Ask your rep and they will give you pricing for both!

Movex

from Jenn W. in MI - July 13, 2009
My husband and I are from Michigna but moved to Arizona but we still have stuff in Michigan we want to move. Would we be able to set up a truck to come on this Thursday? Or do you guys need a certain amount of time before you can reserve space?

Jenn,

We generally need about 10 days notice to guarantee a truck. If you have a short notice move, the best we could do this time of year is to put you on "standby" and get you scheduled on the next available truck.

Movex

from Dave P. in CA - July 13, 2009
Ammunition is clearly prohibited, but what is your policy when it comes to moving firearms themselves?

Dave,

You can certainly pack your firearms. They need to be boxed and, if possible, the barrels and/or cylinders removed. Make sure that no ammunition goes on the moving truck as that is a hazardous material violation.

Movex

from Arnold H. in NC - July 13, 2009
We will drive the truck and turn it in at Ocala, Fl. How many days does the cost cover?

Arnold,

We are a self-service mover.. which means that we provide the truck, fuel, moving equipment, and door to door transport. We do not rent trucks that you can drive.

Movex

from Kimmie S. in CA - July 13, 2009
My husband is in the army we are moving to Virginia but my husband is already out there. Can I move our stuff without him having to fly out to Cali or do I need his power of attorney?

Kimmie,

You can set up the order and move it without him. You just need to put both of your names on the documentation.

Movex

from shweta P. in NC - July 6, 2009
I am moving to a different apartment which is five miles away from mine. How much does it cost to move my things?

Shweta,

Movex

from Karen M. in FL - June 30, 2009
I need to move approx a half dozen boxes, several chairs and lamps to Delray Beach florida - do you small jobs like this one?

Karen,

We do have some great options for small shipments. You will need some flexibility so that we can "fit them" into the schedule, but our pricing is outstanding.

Movex

from Nakeya W. in MI - June 29, 2009
How do I know you will deliver my belongings if you recieve all the money up front?I understand a deposit but wouldn't feel comfortable with paying before the job is done and my belongings arrive safe and on time.

Nakeya,

Movex has been in business for over 15 years and are members in good standing with the Better Business Bureau. You can count on us to provide the service promised. We don't charge your credit card for your move until loading day. Also, when paying with a credit card you have the security of your credit card company behind you. If you did not receive the service, you could dispute the charges with your credit card company and they would immediately charge us back for the move.

Movex

from Joe C. in TX - June 29, 2009
What happens if a truck does not show up on the assigned pick up day as promised?

Joe,

It is very rare for this to happen, but sometimes circumstances beyond our control mess up the move and make us late. Part of our contract is that if the truck is delayed for any reason Movex will pay any verifiable expenses incurred up to 10% of the cost of the move.

Movex

from Jenny F. in VT - June 26, 2009
do you move from woodstock, vt. 05091 to elk, ca 95432? is there a different rate for weekend and week days?

Jenny,

You will need to call our service center to check on those areas. Both are remote and may have some loading restrictions. We quote the same low rates for weekdays and weekends. However, we have limited capacity and the weekends fill up fastest. So make your reservations early.

Movex

from lynn G. in CO - June 26, 2009
Do you give senior or AARP discounts? Do you rush people who are trying to load carefully? Do you help in determining how much space we should reserve on one of your trucks?

Lynn,

We start with our lowest discounted prices to all of our customers. Movex is the best and most inexpensive way to move, period. We are also very custoemr friendly and do not rush you. Ample time is allowed for all loads. As far as determining space, we can give you some guidelines, but ultimately the choice of how much space to reserve rests in your hands. We recommend ordering more space than you think you will need so you have a relaxing, event free moving day. In most instances, several more feet of space is not expensive at all and worth the peace of mind.

Movex

from Kimberly B. in WI - June 26, 2009
Do you guys move to Canada at all? We're moving to Vancouver, BC and are looking to find a reasonably price way to get our furniture out there.

Thanks

Kimberly

Kimberly,

Because of the self-load nature of our business, we cannot clear customs on international shipments since the goods have not been manifested and inspected by a certified agent. You will need to choose a full-service mover to move internationally.

along with a two bedroom apartment, would you be capable of moving a '94 toyota tercel from gr, mi to colorado springs, co?

Shannon,

Yes, we can certainly help you with your move and with moving your car on the same moving van with your furniture.

All other customers: If you live in the contiguous United States, we more than likely service your area. We are the largest and most diversified self-service mover in the country. All of our moving trucks are equipped with furniture blankets, loading ramps, tie-down straps, and a dolly. If you would like a rate for your move, please fill out the form at the top of this page and a rate will be emailed to you within about 5 minutes. Or, feel free to call 800-876-6839. We have reps answering the phone from 8am to 8pm that are prepared to answer your questions and help you make your reservations. We look forward to hearing from you.

Do you move between Littleton CO and Estes Park CO

Sara,

We only handle out of state moves (meaning going from one state to another). So no, we would not be able to help you with your move within the state of Colorado. You would need to contact a mover that is licensed to handle that business.

We are planning to move from Florida to Texas, and we received a quote already but we won't find out for sure where we are moving to until 2 days after the quote will expire will we be able to use the same quote? Also how long do you have to load and unload a 3 bedroom house?

Cassandra,

I would make your reservation now to lock in your rate for up to 60 days. With fuel spiking, quotes are only good for ten days but reservations are solid for the extended time. Your rep can get you more information on loading times. It varies with the size of space you reserve. Don't worry though, we allow plenty of time for average moves.

Do you service both Mississippi and North Dakota?
Is it possible to delay delivery by a few days so that I would have enough time to get to the destination as well?

Amanda,

Yes, we do service both places. However, there are some of the more remote areas of North Dakota that have some restrictions on when and how we service them. If you call our offices at 800-876-6839, one of our reps can walk you through the details. Our drivers can travel up to 500 miles a day. Let your rep know your needs and they will work out delivery dates and times for you.

Do your trucks have any form of climate control? We have a grand piano and other items we are concerned about being exposed to extreme temperatures for the several days during our August move.

Angela,

We do not have climate control on our vans. I would check with the piano manufacturer and ask what the limitations may be. I can tell you that we move hundreds of pianos and thousands and thousands of furniture items every summer and have not had complaints about damage due to heat inside the moving truck. That being said, check with the manufacturer as I don't want to steer you wrong on this.

I was wondering @ using your services from Hawaii? I would like to get a small container and have it shipped to a port in CA and have it brought to a spacific location in Nebraska, if this is posible would we need to be at the port to make the transfer from the ship to one of your trucks, or is it not possible from HI?

Deborah,

That is theoretically possible. The challenge will be with loading at the port at origin. Homeland Security will only allow the carriers that are set up by the shipping companies to have access to the port. You would need to deliver the container somewhere in California and then have us meet you there for loading. I don't think we can actually make it happen at the port due to the issue above.

All of our services include the truck, fuel, driver, and door to door service. We don't actually rent just the trailers. We can get you some great rates for shipping all of your stuff. We can even ship your Suburban on the same truck with your furniture if you want to fly instead of drive.

I understand that there will be other compartments for others that are moving and that my belongings will be in a seperate compartment, but my question is will we be charged handling fees just because my compartment is in the midddle and will have to be taken out to get to another compartment and if so how much are the handling fees?

Tasha,

Most of the trucks have side doors so this is not an issue. If the moving van does not have side doors, our dispatchers will route it so that it loads and unloads in order so that there will be no handling. So there are no handling charges because we are set up to provide direct service without it.

The driver will use load bars that lock into the walls of the truck and a couple of 3/4 inch plywood sheets to construct a sturdy, separation partition. Remember that with Movex the driver stays with your load, so you have the added security of him watching things for you as well.

I read other revies about the company and I saw that one day before the scheduled move, a Movex truck would have mechanical problems. Things end up not being moved. Is that true? And are there refunds involved in this situation

Bingham,

Movex guarantees in writing that we will pick you up on the day that you request. If for some reason we missed your date (ie. mechanical failure on a truck or a dispatch problem(customer ahead of you taking too long, etc.)), we will reimburse any expenses incurred up to 10% of the full cost of your move. No other company in the moving industry carries a guarantee like that. We are the best!

Scott,

You need to make your reservations a week or so in advance at the latest. We only have a limited number of trucks available and we like to plan them as far in advance as possible. The later that you book your order, the more likely you are to have to have flexibility to get on the next availalbe unit.

The estimate I got was based of the dimensions of the truck. Will the final bill be the same or will the weight of the things I am moving be involved?

Jordan,

That is an excellent question. You pay only for the space on the truck, not the weight. The weight of the shipment never comes into play as long as you are shipping household goods.

Movex

from barbara N. in AL - March 31, 2009
what are your service areas?

Barbara,

Movex provides service to nearly all points in the "lower 48". Some of the very remote areas of the country have minimum shipment rates, but, for the most part we can move you anywhere at a great rate.

Movex

from Jennifer R. in IN - March 29, 2009
If it turns out that we overbook the amount of space we need in a truck, is there any reimbursement/buy-back from Movex?

Jennifer,

We provide service on moving vans and commit to the amount of space that is being purchased. So there are no refunds for space ordered that is not used.

Be careful about this promise from other companies. There are companies that are "only going to charge you for the space used", but the reason that they do this is because they are freight companies. They will take your household goods on a truck to their terminal and then load anything from potting soil to potatoes on the truck WITH YOUR FURNITURE. Those trucks are also spring-ride freight trucks, not moving vans and you are much more prone to damages and have to deal with your household goods being unsecured at an open freight terminal with hundreds of loading docks.

Our relocation specialists will give you all of the information you need to make an educated choice for the amount of space to order. You can read about their skill with this at http://www.movexsurveys.com

Chuck,

We accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. We require a 10% deposit upon booking (refundable). The balance is due on the day of loading once the truck arrives at your house. The loading and unloading time varies with the size of shipment. The larger the shipment, the longer to load.

Movex

from Pat G. in OH - March 9, 2009
Do you use subcontractors? Do all of your trucks have the Movex logo on them?

We have the most stringent requirements in the industry for them.

I live in CA and am planning a move to New York City. I only need to move a few large items, a bed, lcd tv, and keyboard. What kind of service would you recommend?

Ryan,

Because we use fully-equipped moving vans that are 53 feet long, we cannot service Manhattan. The trucks are too big to safely maneuver the tight streets of NYC. You could use the Movex service and meet us just outside the city with a small shuttle truck and transport your goods into the City. While not the easiest way to move, this will still be the cheapest way.

My family and I will be moving from CA to NC in a few months. We are interested in your company with assist with our move. How many hours do you allow for us to pack/load everything into your truck given it is a 2 bedroom house? Same as, how much time do you allow for unloading our belongings once we arrive in NC?

Michael,

We would generally allow 6 to 8 hours for loading and unloading of a shipment that size. It will take approximately 6 days for us to travel across the country.

Hello. I am planning a move from Tehachapi, CA to Florence, KY at the end of June 2009. I was told by another company that I would not find anyone who could move me at this time. Is this true or was he just misleading me?

Kim,

The end of June is the busiest week of the year for every moving company in the US. All of the kids are out of school and the military does all of its relocations during that time. We are taking reservations now and will usually have the last week of June completely booked by mid-May. So, he was not misleading you... maybe being a bit overdramatic. It is never too soon to make your reservations and guarantee your spot on the moving truck.

Movex

from ric T. in FL - February 10, 2009
Since you have a fleet, will you transport our possessions on one truck or divide it onto another truck? Who is liable if something gets damaged or stolen during the move?

Ric,

The moving truck that picks up your shipment is the same one that delivers it. Movex is a self-service provider, so we will not divide or move your goods to another truck unless there is a problem that mandates it (truck accident, etc.). You Load, We Drive, You Save. You get a private compartment and the driver stays with the truck through transit, so theft is never a problem (we have not had a theft claim in 14 years of business). Movex will provide you with $5000 of catastrophic coverage during your move at no charge. Up to $50,000 of coverage is available at very competitive rates.

Movex

We are looking to relocate from Iowa to Jocotepec, Jalisco MX. and looking either for a moving co or a load and drive co or a rental truck to do the move. Do you go into Mexico? If not, can you refer me to someone that does?
Thank you,
Theresa

Theresa,

You are going to need to contact a full-service vanline that can manifest your shipment properly and deal with border-crossings and Homeland Security. Self-service will not work as they require a certified manifest to cross the border. We cannot provide that since you are doing the loading and unloading. Our recommendation for this type of service is United Vanlines. They have an entire staff that does nothing but this type of international move.

I live in Hollywood CA and may be relocating to the DC area in August. I'm looking at moving my 2 door pontiac cavalier with the stuff I have (Basically no furniture other than bedroom furniture - selling the rest) Other stuff would be all boxed and then have a few normal sized TV's, stereo and floor standing jewerly armoire. Because shipping with car, would you say that the only option is to have it put on the long tractor trailer size truck? Do you know if you can park one on a side road in Hollywood? I haven't seen one on my street, but I do know I've seen the box type moving trucks. I will fill out the moving quote, but wanted to know if the truck could even come to my complex. There is no access road to my complex, it's just on the side road because our parking is underground. I read, for example, you can't in NY City etc and didn't know about permits either. Thanks.

Nicole,

Some areas of Hollywood can be as tricky as NYC for loading a moving van. If you have never seen one at your complex before, you can probably count on it being an impossible access. I would recommend finding a nearby large parking lot and shuttling your goods to the truck. It sounds like most of it will fit in the car anyway, so this may be a great option for you.

Hi, We ae going to be doing a cross country move from Washington State to Tampa FL. We have some large and fragile pieces of antique furniture, large slabs of marble, some glass, etc. My question to you is, are these true moving vans with the softer suspension, or are these freight trucks with the stiff suspension that will damage things like what we have to move?

Art,

We only use air-ride suspension trucks in the fleet. Some of the trucks that we use are traditional "moving" vans. Others are "logistics" vans. Logistics vans are air-ride and are more commonly used for shipping fragile items (such as medical equipment, new furniture from the manufacturer, etc.).

All of the trucks are equipped with loading ramps, tie-down straps, and furniture blankets as well. So, we are the absolute best choice when moving fragile pieces like those you mentioned.

I have a hard time understanding how this works. I tried looking in your forums on your website but no info.
How big is the 8ft space 8x9x?
and will my stuff get mixed up with someone elses? how do you seperate?
the move is from nj to las vegas
how long does that take you? Is everything insured?
any other fees tax etc that will be added?

Thanks

greg

Greg,

If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you will find all of the topics that have been addressed in the forum. Reading through them will often answer most of your questions... including the ones that you are asking here.

The moving trucks are 8ft wide and 9ft tall. You can order anywhere from 6ft to the whole truck with these dimensions.

Your stuff is separated from the others on the truck by moveable walls.

We travel 550 miles a day so your cross-country move will take 5 days at a minimum. The maximum number of days depends on how much space you order.

You are insured for $5000 of catastrophic loss with the cost of the move. More is available. Please ask your relocation specialist for details.

The prices we quote are all-inclusive. There are no hidden charges.

I received a quote from movex but I just want to make sure you guys come to Marthas Vineyard. Sometimes companies say they go somewhere when you enter the city but, then they refuse at the last minute. I don't want this to happen at the last minute. Also, we live in a wooded area. I am concerned about the truck getting to our house.

Kelly,

You are absolutely doing the right thing by checking. While we do service most areas, Martha's Vineyard has truck restrictions that will not allow us to go directly there. You would actually need to take a much smaller truck and shuttle your goods out to our moving van. This is inconvenient, but the only way to get on and off of Martha's Vineyard.

Movex

from andrew H. in PA - January 3, 2009
do you put more than 1 household in a truck or do you have different size trucks

Andrew,

We put more than one household on each moving truck, however, each customer gets a private compartment for their household. We do not mix the shipments up in a common area on the truck.

Movex

I need to move from WA to Brooklyn, NY. I read that you cannot go to Manhattan or Brooklyn because your trucks are 53 ft. long and too big for NYC streets. However, I also read that you have some 28ft. trucks available. How do these differ from each other besides the size? Are these too big for NYC as well?

A relative checked out ABF for me and they said that they could deliver to Brooklyn. The driver would stay with the truck to allow us a few hours to unload. They told him that the container was 28ft. long. What's the difference with your 28 footer and theirs?

It sounds like you would be a better fit for us since you also move cars with the household goods and we have a Prius to send. Also, you deliver on weekends which would help us a lot.

The smaller trucks are "straight" trucks and more like a Uhaul truck. Loading and unloading has to take place in under 4 hours, permits have to be acquired for parking, and the driver stays with the truck while you are loading. This is only available in Brooklyn. If you are moving to Manhattan, you should get a full-service mover in NYC to help you. They have the right equipment and know-how to accommodate you.

Are packing blankets available to protect my good furniture and what about moving a piano?

Eunice,

We are probably one of the only good options for moving pianos. Our moving trucks are equipped with furniture blankets, loading ramps, tie-down straps, and dollies. Imagine trying to load your piano onto one of our competitor's trucks with no loading ramps! Lifting it 4 ft off of the ground to get it into the back of the truck is impossible. Then you would have to deal with figuring out how to secure it to keep it from rolling around and being destroyed. Movex is definitely the best option for you.

from Alex L. in IN - December 23, 2008
Did I read right that you provide moving blankets and a ramp? Is there extra charge for that?

Alex,

We DO provide that and there is no extra charge for it! Our competitors are providing this service in spring-ride freight trucks with no ramps, no way to pad your shipment, and no way to secure it in the truck. Don't make the mistake of ruining your furniture in a freight truck. We are comparably priced with 100% better quality service.

Movex

from mike L. in IN - December 5, 2008
do you move boats, I have a ski boat in Shreveport,LA that needs to come to Indiana

Mike,

If it will fit inside a moving van, yes. But you will need a wrecker to come out and load it into the truck. The inside width of the van is 102". Make sure that you will have enough room for clearance. Don't forget that the wheel wells on your trailer may stick out wider than the boat.

Two questions, how long is the average trailer? My quote came back with a recommendation for a 30' trailer and I was trying to determine if that would most likely be an entire trailer. Second question is regarding lawn equipment like lawnmowers and gas powered edgers. Can they be shipped with fuel? Thanks

Frank,

Most of our moving vans are 53ft long. You would have 30' of space on that truck (each customer gets a private compartment). Lawn equipment would need to have the gas drained prior to shipping.

I am sorry I do not know your company. Please understand it is all my home and two cars....everything I own and is to be trusted to move 1800 miles? I am down to you (due to price since I am paying for the move myself) and one other national carrier. Why should I chose you? Thank you for your consideration and response. I need to commit by this Friday the 17th as I am moving Nov. 10th. Thanks again. Grady Dobson

Grady,

Movex is the oldest and one of the most trusted self-service movers. I would suggest visiting http://www.movexsurveys.com and reading through the experiences that others have had with our service. Our survey site is a major part of our business. Every customer has the opporunity to fill these out once their move is complete. You will notice that there are hundreds and hundreds of surveys and that the vast majority of them are positive. We are certified members of the BBB and part of their arbitration assurance program.

While we don't claim to be perfect, we do claim to do what is right. If we mess up, we try to fix it... and every once in a while, something gets messed up when dealing with hundreds of trucks and customers moving all over the country every month.

In this economy, Movex is an excellent choice. We do everything that we can to provide a quality service at the lowest cost available. Some may consider this an oxymoron, but Walmart does it every day.

I don't know if this answers your question or makes you feel any better about choosing us. If you have any other questions, please feel free to call us at 800-876-6839. Human beings answer the phone from 8am to 8pm 5 days a week (and from 10 to 4 on Saturday).

Do you put multiple families belongings on the same truck? If yes, how do you prevent someone else from unloading your belongings?

Jeff,

Inside each of the moving trucks are walls that act as a barrier between your shipment and anyone else's. Also, if a shipment is on board, the driver will stay with the truck at all times to make sure that your items are secure.

A couple Questions:

Is it advised to put your belongings on pallets if we have acess to them or is that allowed? Would it reduce the cost at all.

My belonging are currently in storage. The facility does have ample space for a large truck but there is no loading docks. Is the truck equiped with a hydrolic plate on back to raise it up if the belongings are on pallets?

What happens if something is damaged during shipping?

Are there any other fees that could be applied other than the origional price of the quote? Or does this include EVERYTHING?

Devin,

We highly advise AGAINST putting your belongings on pallets. That is how you ship things on freight trucks and how they get damaged.

Movex provides furniture blankets, loading ramps, dollies, and tie down straps for every shipment. With the ramp, you should not need the hydraulic liftplate.

Since you are loading and unloading the goods yourself, Movex is not responsible for damages UNLESS there is a truck accident, overturn, fire, etc. Please contact your relocation specialist at 800-876-6839 for clarification of what is covered.

Finally, the price that we send you is THE PRICE. No add-ons. No joke. We are committed to the highest standards of integrity and honesty and will not play pricing games with your move.

I have seen that some competitors have the customers install the bulkhead or dividers in the trucks. Do you expect the customers to install the dividers or do you do that?

Bridget,

We provide the bulkheads and install them. Our competitors expect you to provide them and/or install them... which is ridiculous.

Can you move ONLY a wheelchair from Austin, Texas to Ft. Pierce, Florida? We are donating a wheelchair and trying to figure out how to get it from TX to FL.

Tiernie,

You should take that to the UPS store. They will crate it and ship it on their freight system. Movex would be overkill for a 1 piece shipment.

Movex

from Heather E. in WI - September 14, 2008
I received a quote for 12 ft and I am wondering what happens if I go over that 12 ft and how much extra that will be. Also do you install the dividers in the trucks?

Heather,

If you go over the 12 feet, you would be responsible for the charges for the additional space. The cost to order extra space up-front is not that much, so we recommend ordering a couple more feet than you think you will need "just in case". Yes, we do install dividers between the shipments on the moving trucks.

So far I am comiing up SOL to move from zip 95461 to zip 38555. Before I spend time on your site, what's the status on my locations?

Linda,

Middletown is in a California truck restriction zone. This means that you cannot take our large tractor-trailers to your residence. You would need to shuttle your goods down to Napa in order for us to transport them to Tennessee. I know this is a total pain, but those are California rules, not ours. Those rules only apply to a very small portion of California (most of which is up off of Highway 101). That is the reason that the quote generator would not give you pricing.

Stefani,

Sorry, we don't do that. We provide the truck, driver, fuel, furniture pads, loading ramps and tie down straps.... but our rates are all-inclusive.

from Charles S. in CA - July 26, 2008
how is picking up from a storage site & apt done?

Because the driver stays with the vehicle during loading and unloading, it is easy for us to make pickups and deliveries to apartments and storage facilities (because the driver can move the truck if necessary).

from nisha H. in UT - July 26, 2008
I would prefer that my belongings arrived approximately when I arrive instead of having to wait, and it seems like there is no way to know exactly when the truck will arrive so I was wondering if it would it be possible to rent my own truck or van so that it doesnt make any other stops along the way?

A lot of customers find that renting the entire moving van is not only more convenient, but also not as expensive as you would think. I encourage everyone to ask their relocation agent about this excellent option.

from Arlisha D. in TN - July 26, 2008
How long will I have to load my belongings once the truck arrives? How long is the expected delivery time?

Loading time is based on the amount of space that you reserve on the truck. Transit time is 500 miles per day. To get information specific to your move, please call us at 800-876-6839 and a relocation specialist will assist you.

from Elizabeth H. in PA - July 23, 2008
I need to move one piece of furniture (approx 100 lbs). Can I get it included on a truck headed to Missouri? Or do you have small van service for a single item? Thanks.

Elizabeth,

This is one area where we are overkill. Our minimum shipment size is 5ft of space on a moving van (about the size of one POD). That would make it cost prohibitive for one item shipments. I would recommend going to the UPS store and having them ship the item.

Movex

from Janet A. in CA - July 23, 2008

Absolutely. In fact, we would probably be the best choice for those heavy items because we provide loading ramps, a dolly, blankets to pad your goods, and tie down straps to secure them.

We would like to rent a 53" truck to transport (2) autos, furniture and household goods to Georgia. My son-in-law is a licensed big rig driver and is willing to drive from CA. to GA. How much would it cost to rent the truck one way and how much would the insurance cost? Thanks, Susan

If we fill the whole truck - I assume it is 28 ft, can we get the truck by the 20th of July fill it up and send it out there, approx. how much would that be?

Dan,

The moving vans for our premier service are actually 53ft long. We can certainly get you a full truck by the 20th. You should call in and speak to a relocation specialist at 800-876-6839 to work out pricing. This forum is for general service questions only.

I am moving from Erie PA 16508 to Surprise Arizona 85374. I am moving with a doctor and we are starting a practice there. With two separate residences can we take the same truck?

Dan,

Movex is the only self-service mover that can provide you with that service. You can each have a private compartment on the same moving van. The driver will bring the truck for loading at one house the first day and the other house the second day. Unloading would follow the same routine in reverse.

from Donna M. in FL - July 15, 2008
I have just found out I need to move some furniture next week from Long Island NY Cape Coral, Fl. How much notice do you need? The items equal less then one room.

For our premier "padded-van" service, we need about a week's notice. For our freight services, we should be able to accommodate you with a 48 hour notice.

I am moving from STL to AZ. I live in a studio apt. and i don't have any large furniture just boxes. I also need to ship my car. Do you think i could ship my car and those boxes from my studio apartment in one container? Or will i have to get another container?

You would use our moving van service for that kind of shipment. Your car would go on the truck right behind your furniture in a separate compartment.

What is the size of your smartbox. Also, do you go to northern Idaho close to the Canadian border.

We do service many areas in Idaho, but for a point that far north, you will need to check with your relocation specialist at 800-876-6839.

Movex

from tracy P. in OH - June 30, 2008
what is a smart box?

Tracy,

The Movex Smartbox service is very similar to PODS. We bring a container (smartbox) to your home, you load it, we transport it to destination where you unload it. Some customers need extended storage when moving and we are able to accommodate that with the Smartbox service.

Regular Movex service is more of a direct shipping method that cannot be used when extended storage is needed.

from Kelly N. in NC - June 28, 2008
I am planning a move from Wilmington, NC to a studio apt. in Manhattan, NY. Will there be a problem with the size of your moving truck being able to park and unload there?

Kelly,

Unfortunately, Manhattan is not servicable with our system because of the large size of the moving trucks and limited parking availablility in Manhattan. If you wanted to use our service, we could get your shipment as far as New Jersey. You would need to meet the truck at a predetermined location and shuttle your goods in a smaller truck into Manhattan.

Movex

from Justin G. in OH - June 21, 2008
Is payment required up front or upon delivery?

Justin

We route moving trucks well in advance of your move. For that reason, we require payment with a credit card prior to sending a moving van all the way to your home. Paying with a credit card makes your transaction 100% safe and secure for you as a consumer. If a mover will not take a credit card... don't use them!

Movex

from Kelly S. in OK - June 21, 2008

I live on a 700' dirt drive- would this be an issue?

Cheri,

All of the big moving vans that we use MUST stay on paved roads. In your situation, you would need to shuttle your goods out to the moving truck that would be safely parked on the hard road.

Movex

from Travis S. in IL - June 17, 2008
Is there a inventory taken of the my possessions or is that up to me/customer.

Travis,

That is up to you, the customer. Movex is a self-service form of moving. We provide the moving truck, you provide the loading and unloading.

Each customer gets a private compartment on the truck, so an inventory is not necessary.

Movex

from Jennifer F. in CA - June 13, 2008
So if you sell the remaining space to someone else does that mean they are going to have access to my things while they are unloading theirs?

Jennifer,

Each customer is in a private compartment on the moving truck. For added security, the driver stays with the vehicle during loading and unloading to ensure that nobody breaks into your compartment. In our 9 years of service, Movex has never had a theft claim.

Movex

from Jeff G. in WA - June 13, 2008

this is a question regarding payment. i did not find the info on the site, maybe didnt look in the right spot...
what do you need to reserve the truck? is there a hold or deposit on credit cards? do you accept other forms of payment? when is payment processed?
i ask because my parents are helping me pay for the move and we need to get all the funds into one account.
thanks a bunch! movex looks wonderful! i am actually looking forward to the move!
sincerely,
a.malone

Amanda,

... and we are looking forward to helping you move. It takes a credit card to make your reservation (Visa, MC, Discover, no Amex). Nothing is charged on your credit card when you make your reservation. 5 days prior to your loading, an authorization of funds is run on the card. We check this 5 days prior in case there are payment challenges. That gives us enough time to work with you to secure payment so that we don't end up trying to do it on moving day... which is stressful enough.

Using a credit card for payment is secure for both parties. Movex knows that the funds are available and you, the consumer, have the power of your credit card company behind you to ensure that we don't get paid unless the service is performed.

Looking forward to assisting you with your move.

Movex

Movex

from James S. in AZ - June 3, 2008
Because there are multiple users per 54 ft. truck, how are my belongings secure when they are loading/unloading their items?

James,

Each shipment is separated from any other shipments on the moving truck by a wall. There are several moveable walls inside the truck so we can accommodate up to 7 shipments on one vehicle. If there are other shipments on board, the driver will stay with the vehicle while others are loading and unloading to make sure that nobody gets into another shipment. We have never had a customer theft claim in the history of Movex.

Our minimum shipment size is 5 ft of space on the moving truck. That is really going to be overkill for a one piece shipment. I would suggest calling UPS. That is probably going to be the most cost-effective solution for you.

Movex

from Sarah M. in NC - June 1, 2008

Question 1 - what if all of my stuff does not fit in a 28ft truck?

Question 2 - do I have to purchase boxes and supplies on my own?

Question 3 - Are my belongings insured?

Question 4 - can you store my belongings for 1-2 weeks if necessary?

Michael,

1. We provide service on 53ft moving vans, so you will not need to worry about not having enough room. Just make sure you tell your relocation specialist how much space you would like to have when making your reservation.

2. Movex premier service provides you with furniture blankets, tie-down straps, loading ramps, and a dolly. You will need to purchase your own boxes.

3. Movex provides $5000 of coverage for your goods at no cost. Additional coverage is available for an affordable cost.

4. We have some storage options and even have an EXACT EXPRESS option where you can choose the exact delivery date of your shipment (this service is only provided on 28ft trucks and does not include the moving equipment mentioned in the answer above, but is our only storage option).

Hope this helps.

Moving from Florida to
Black Mountain North Carolina. Home located approx. 2500'up. There
is a gravel "driveway" leading up to the house.

Before the "driveway" there is a bridge to cross, how wide does the
bridge have to be and what weight capacity does it need? Once the bridge is crossed, it is straight up. Once up there is room for a large truck to pull in and turn around. How much space do you think it would require once up to turn around? I guess this is more than one question.

Carol,

The gravel driveway is a no-go for us. The big moving vans are made for paved roads and stick very very easily in gravel (even packed gravel). You will need to rent a smaller Uhaul or Ryder truck and shuttle your goods from the moving van up to your home. Sorry, but that is the best anyone can do in your situation.

Can you provide me with recommendations for movers to load and unload the truck? Also my arrival destination is in the mountains of Asheville, NC at 2500 ft elevation. Will your truck go up there?

Karen,

At the top of our homepage is a link where you can find loading and unloading help.

Getting large moving trucks into the mountains can be very tricky. If you are truly "up the mountain" roads, we cannot bring a moving truck right to your home. You would need to rent a smaller truck and shuttle your goods up the mountain.

We are moving contents of 14 X 80 3 bedroom mobile home and outside furniture and 10 X 10 shed...are any items not allowed how much notice to reserve, and any other help you can provide???thank-you, Lori

Lori,

Summer is always the busiest season. If you know you are moving, I would reserve now as we will honor rates for 60 days once a reservation is made. If you wait and gas prices continue to go up, you may pay a higher rate later (an prices are inching up daily with fuel costs).

With a shipment as large as yours, I would recommend a full moving truck. If this is moving in the military DITY program, ask your relocation specialist about getting certified weight tickets so that you can get reimbursed for your move. Depending on your rank and military moving allowance, you may be able to move and still have a nice sum of money left over at the end of the relocation.

Does your quote include the ferry cost to get onto the island?

Myra,

Movex only services direct points. If your move requires a ferry, that charge would, in fact, be extra. Also, Movex moving vans are often too large for ferrys. You may need to rent a smaller truck that is allowed on the ferry and shuttle the goods. You will need to speak to one of our relocation specialists for all of the details as that is a more complicated service to provide.

what if you run out of space on moving day?

K,

We recommend that you order an extra couple of feet so that this does not happen. If you do need extra space on moving day (and it is available), the cost per foot of truck is equal to what you paid per foot for the rest of the moving truck.

For example. If you order 10ft of truck space for $1200. The cost per extra foot of space would be $120.

Can I move a motorcycle in the truck with my home goods? If so, do you provide a special motorcycle chock/adaptor to hold the bike in palce?

Allen,

You can certainly put your motorcycle on the moving truck. We provide furniture blankets, loading ramps, and tie-down straps..however, we do not provide special motorcycle chocks. I would suggest going to your local motorcycle dealer and purchasing a set so that your bike won't fall over during transit.

We can provide moving truck service to anywhere in the contiguous United States. We do have some small shipping options for International moves (or, in your case, moves to Alaska), but these opportunities are limited to a "boxes only" shipping service. If you would like to discuss options, call us at 800-876-6839 and ask to speak with Kim. She handles all of our small, overseas shipments.

Do you move motorcyles as well? I've typically moved it in the same compartment as the furniture and boxes by securely strapping it to the side of the (rented) moving truck using bagged pillows/blankets as a filler and spacer.

Chris,

Movex does move motorcycles. It would go in the moving truck just like you mention above. Movex will also provide, padding and straps to secure your bike. We are the only self-service mover that provides air-ride trucks with furniture pads, loading ramps, and a dolly included for no extra charge.

Does the movex driver load and unload if requested extra? Also I have 2 locations for belongings - how will that be figured?? The 2 sites are within 5 miles of each other. One my home --- one my storoage unit. What is the cost of full coverage insurance??
Thank You

Julia,

We are a self-service moving company, so the drivers are not available to be hired through Movex. When your driver contacts you to schedule your pickup, you can often make arrangements directly with him to help with some of the heavier items and with arranging goods on the truck.

We can make multiple pickups and stops for moving customers. Because this involves relocating the large moving trucks, there is a $95 extra charge for multiple stops.

Movex provides free catastrophic coverage for up to $5000. Additional value packages are available. Please call us at 800-876-6839 and a relocation specialist can "walk you through" the packages available.

I am an absolute clean freak...OCD clean. You can't imagine how stressful it is having your personal belongings put into a truck that you have know idea what has previously been inside. Do you clean between moves, etc?? THanks.

Mike,

You and I share the same pet peeve. I am NOT one for disgusting things... The moving trucks are always neat and in order. We only ship household goods so you don't have to worry about dirty freight being loaded around your goods (like you would have to worry when using one of our freight competitors).

That being said, we are not in there with a bottle of Lysol between moves. Our trucks are clean, but not sterile... I guarantee that we will be better than any other mover working with the general public.

My mother-in-law has a Victrola at her home in Los Angeles that we need to get back to our home in Kansas City, KS. Is it better to fly out to L.A. and rent a vehicle to bring it back or arrange for the item to be shipped to us? If the latter, how? Thanks.

Becky,

By the time that you factor in the cost of flying, renting a truck, putting fuel in that truck, and wasting 4 to 5 days driving a rental truck across the country, this would appear to be a fantastic option for you.

We will bring the moving truck to your mother-in-law's home. You will have the victrola loaded. We will then take it to your home in Kansas where you would have it unloaded. Movex should be a great option for you.

What do you mean by "compartment"? What actually divides one person's load from another's - is it a reasonably solid wall that you stack things against, or just some sort of fabric divider?

Thanks JB

John,

Great question. The dividers are made up of two load bars and heavy plywood. You can stack against them. The load bars hook into the sides of the moving truck and brace in place the two sheets of plywood. This is standard equipment on all professional moving vans.

Movex has one of the best "on-time" percentages in the industry at 96%. We also have a limited money-back guarantee if moving trucks arranged by us are not there on time (see contract for details). The drivers are all contracted and compensation is based on on-time pickups and deliveries so they are very conscientious.

Looks like a great service...how do prices compare with the big movers? Also...they want to come pick up our things on one truck take it somewhere else and reload it on a semi...I am not comfortable with that...how do you do it??? What would be the chances of getting a mover 21 or 21nd of dec all the way across country?????? fl to ca??

very interesting..glad I stumbled across your web page!!!

Lydia,

It is a great service! Our prices should be 30 to 40% less than a full-service mover's price. With Movex you load your household onto the moving truck and into its own compartment. It then travels to your home where you unload it. Full-service movers take your goods back to a warehouse where they are subjected to unnecessary handling with an unload and reload. This will also add a considerable amount of time to your transit. Because our orders travel direct, our transit times are the most efficient in the industry.

If you want to book for the 21st of December, now is the time to do it. A lot of customers want to book to move over the holiday and moving trucks are in high demand. We can certainly accommodate just about any request.

Michael,

We need 72 hours notice to get a moving truck in place for you (possibly more depending on where you live). The amount of time that you have to load the moving van is dependent on how much space that you order. If you call our offices at 800-876-6839, one of our relocation specialists can fill you in on the details and pricing as well as book your move.

I was just informed of a new military PCS move for me this coming May 2008. I am looking into doing a do-it-yourself move. I am wondering about the competiveness of your company vs. rental vans and the time it will take to transport my goods from Montgomery County, MD to San Antonio. I have a large 2 bedroom apartment, with about 4000-4500 lbs. of goods. Additionally, I will have 1-2 cars to move as well (depending on the cost of your moving options; the cars are 1997 Geo Prizm and 2005 Toyota Corolla). Thanks.

Jacob,

Our military moving program is the best in the country and will allow you to MAKE A PROFIT on your relocation.

While Movex charges you for the space that you use on the truck, the military will PAY YOU BASED ON THE WEIGHT THAT YOU MOVE!. Movex will provide you with certified weight tickets of how much your entire shipment weighed. You can load your furniture and car onto the truck and get paid by the military based on how much a FULL-SERVICE move would have cost for that weight.

Because you arrange the move and do the loading and unloading, you, the military member, are allowed to keep the difference between what the government pays you and what Movex charges.

It is a great program and a huge benefit for our military personnel.

I have to move my things from Miami to NC, it's a one bedroom small apartment. Below average amount of furniture. How much will it run? Are certain dates cheaper? Is Christmas cheaper??

Claudia,

In spite of this wild economy, our moving rates are pretty stable. Fuel prices, while sky-high, have been hovering around $3.30 (diesel) a gallon and our rates have adjusted accordingly.

The week between Christmas and New Years is actually very busy because moving expenses are only deductible in the year that the move occured. Some dates are already full that week, so make your reservations now to assure that a moving truck is available for your move.

sorry another question...we have 5X8 enclosed utility trailers...could these also be put on the trucks..I see you do vehicles..just wondering about trailers...and let me get this straight we are renting space..a truck not weight correct...what is max weight for the trucks????? really an interesting concept!!!!

how is the back of the trucks for loading large things like hot tubs and vehicles??? ramps???
and any suggestions how you would get something big like a hot tub on the truck..anyone..out tere ever done that???
Thanks again

Lydia,

The interior dimensions of the moving van are 8.5ft wide by 9ft tall. Unfortunately, the 5x8 utility trailer will not fit because of the wheel wells sticking out on either side of it. The 5x8 dimension indicates the interior width of your trailer and does not take into consideration the overall width.

Yes, you are basically renting space on a fully-equipped moving van. The max weight that you can put on the trucks is 22,000# Please remember that you need to speak with one of our relocation specialists if you have something other than household goods to load on the moving truck. Things like extremely heavy tools and multiple boxes of books (ie. 200 book boxes out of a library) take some special consideration when loading as we cannot overload any one axle on the trailer.

The ramps are large enough to accommodate most vehicles. If you put a hot tup up on its side on a 4 wheel dolly, you can have four strong helpers roll it up into the back of the truck. You could then use the pads provided by Movex to cushion it and the straps provided by Movex to strap it to the wall.

Hope this answers your questions, we look forward to serving you.

I am moving from Clovis, CA to Austin, TX around Christmas time. Do you have service over Christmas? Also, we have our belongings in 3 different locations (2 sep. storage units as well as our house), how would that work?

Stacy,

Believe it or not, the week between Christmas and New Years is one of our busiest. A lot of customers take the opportunity to move then so that they can claim the deduction on their taxes (most moving expenses are tax deductible). We will be open and providing moving truck services nationwide over the holiday. That being said, availability is at a premium. Book your moves early.

Movex is the only self-service mover that can accommodate multiple pick ups. The driver stays with the moving truck and is available to move it to different locations for multiple pickups and deliveries.

Joanne,

We have forwarded your request to one of our moving partners that moves single pieces (ie. piano moves). They will be contacting you shortly. Voytek,

Being a self-service mover (you load, we drive), Movex cannot provide moving truck service internationally. Homeland Security will not let a shipment across the border without a certified manifest. I got married in Minnesota in August and all of our shower and wedding gifts are still there, including a trunk, curio cabinet, my preserved dress and preserved bouquet. Wondering what the best way is to get them to us here in San Jose, CA...

Shannon,

The size of the trunk and curio cabinet could be the difference between us being a good deal and us being too expensive. Our smallest shipment on the moving trucks would be 6ft x 8.5ft x 9ft. If you had a big wedding and have a mountain of gifts to ship, we are the best and most inexpensive way to go. If that would be entirely too much space, you might want to consider shipping everything via UPS ground or Fedex ground. However, their pricing is much higher for less space.

If all that you are shipping is clothes, a moving truck is not what you need. I would suggest boxing everything up and shipping it via UPS. In the long run, that will be the least stressful, and quite possibly, most inexpensive way to get them back to TN.

We are planning a move to TN. I have many household plants. I see that they are one of the items that are not allowed to put in the truck. Is that because of law in going over state lines or is it they may die? Thank you

Cheryl,

By law, you cannot transport live plants on a moving truck without going through an agricultural inspection in each state (if you have travelled on the interstate, you see these stations at every state border). Because of the various permit and inspection issues, we do not transport live plants on our moving vans.

That moving truck will be equipped with all of the "stuff" you need to move, including: furniture blankets, tie-down straps, loading ramps, and a dolly. Jim,

You can certainly load everything that you have mentioned here into the space that you rent on the moving truck. The only issue that you might have is that we contract to move household goods and the tools would not be covered by our catastrophic loss coverage. You will need to check with your homeowner's insurance and make sure that they would cover you in the event of a loss.

Ms. Sherrill,

We provide moving truck rental services to the lower 48, but a trip to Alaska involves a bit of a drive through Canada. Even driving them yourself is prohibited without proper permitting. You will notice on most interstates that their are agricultural checkpoints at state lines. I am inquiring about a moving company that may help my mother move her furniture into a storage....or drive it to michigan. She is elderly and needs it to be moved to her home in MI

Audrey,

We can help you with self-service moving... in layman's terms, we provide the truck, fuel, equipment, driver, and door-to-door service. If you are going to be moving your mother to Michigan and are going to be at origin to assist with loading, we would be a good choice. If you are trying to accomplish the move and will not be there, you need to select a full-service mover that can take care of all of it.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your mom.

Keith,

We would be happy to get him a moving truck that he could load all of his goods into and move to either location. We don't have any suggestions on what to do with that RV. If he can't tow it himself, there are no other services that we know of that could help him.

Christy,

A relocation specialist will be with you shortly. We do not give out pricing in the forum area of the website as there are too many variables that can effect the rate that we cannot cover in this format. Once we have a bit more information, our representative will give you guaranteed pricing on an appropriate space on on of the moving trucks.

We accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover, but we do not have any payment plans available.

I am looking to move from Greenwood, AR to Baltimore, MD sometime after the first of the year. I only have about one 'room's worth of stuff but I also want to move my 1981 pickup truck.

I don't wish to put such an old truck through 1200 miles of moving but without it I have no way of getting to Baltmore.
Thus, bringing me to my question: Does Movex allow ride-alongs?

RoxAnne

RoxAnne,

Unfortunately, the insurance companies frown on ride-alongs on moving trucks. There is simply too much potential liability for us to allow it. Sorry.

Eric,

Your machine can certainly go inside the moving truck and be secured. Getting it into the truck may be a challenge, but if you have the means, it can certainly go with your shipment.

I am considering placing a bid for bedroom furniture on ebay, however the furniture is in WI and I am in CA. Would your services work for me? Total weight would be approx. 450lbs. I'm not certain about space requirements. Thank you.

Stephanie,

We probably would not be a good option for a shipment that small. We provide moving truck service and have minimum shipment sizes of 6ft or 2000#. That would put us way out of the range of what you would be prudent to invest in shipping that furniture. I don't have any recommendations other than you should probably avoid using freight companies for shipping furniture unless it is boxed.

do you allow plant's to be part of the move ??

Arturo,

Due to agricultural restrictions, moving trucks are not allowed to ship plants across state lines. That being said, this time of year is so hot that plants will generally not live even if you were allowed to move them.

How many blankets, tie down straps, etc. are available as part of the move? If need be, can I rent more?

James,

The moving trucks are "fully-equipped" which means, in general, there are 3 blankets available per linear foot and 1 strap for every 5 ft of space on the moving van. There should not be a need to rent additional equipment. But if you need more than what is outlined above, it may or may not be available. If it is, you can use it at no charge. You should take this availability into consideration when planning your loading.

I am sorry but we no longer offer service into or out of Brooklyn and Manhattan. The moving trucks that we utilize are 53' long and parking has become so much of an issue that we discontinued service.

KathyLynn,

Movex has a very large network of moving trucks to choose from so we can generally provide service with as little as 72 hours notice. That being said, the sooner you book in advance, the better the pricing and the more reliable the service.

If you are moving in the summertime or at the end of the month, more notice is better.

I have plans to move around June 20th 2007 from Hamden Ct to Islip Ny ! The only the question that strikes me is that would I be charged for the truck or the driver ! or would I get a total cost per hour for both of them ? and do you charge by mileage with hours or do you charge by hours only ? are there any hidden costs besides that ?

Hasan,

Movex pricing for transportation on moving trucks is unlike truck rental. You do not pay by the hour. We give you a flat rate based on the size truck that you need and the distance that you will be travelling. The time of year also affects the rates. Summer moves cost a bit more than winter moves.

There are no hidden fees with Movex and our pricing includes the use of the moving truck, driver, furniture pads, loading ramps, tie-down straps, and dolly. All prices are guaranteed.

I recently moved from Dubai to Denver. Roughly 90% of my furniture and belongings are still boxed and wrapped. I am now moving to Dallas and United has said that I have to unpack EVERYTHING so that they can REPACK. It is the most ridiculous I have ever heard of. They said it is because regulations do not allow international shipping materials when crossing state lines. Is this true? Where does it state that?

Maryam,

I have never heard of a regulation like that. If you were moving back to Dubai and had to clear customs again, that would be understandable. But moving domestically in the States???

The only other explanation that I could think of would be if you are looking for United to insure the goods that are packed up. If you are, they probably want to verify that the goods are not damaged prior to loading them on the moving truck and taking responsibility for them. If that is the case, you could sign off on the goods that are already packed as "PBO" (packed by owner). They would not be insured, but at least you would not be paying to have them upacked and repacked onto the moving van.

If I am moving a one bedroom apartment(including bedroom, couches, small dinning room table, and some extras) and my car, what are the chances that other shipments will be on the same truck?

Danielle,

The moving trucks are 53ft long. So chances are very good that the order outlined above would have at least one other customer on the truck. No worries though, each shipment is separated from others on the moving van by walls at either end. Using our service is a safe and secure way to move your household.

Mora,

Thank you for the enthusiastic response to our website. I am afraid that you will not be as enthusiastic about the answer to your question. We can get you to the border with the moving truck, but because of the nature of our business (customer loading and unloading), we are not able to assist you internationally.

I am moving from Atlanta to New York to a furnished apartment. I only need to move my clothes. Does Movex have a minimum? What is the best way to do this without incurring high costs?

Julie,

Our minimum shipment is $890 due to the fact that we would be bringing a full-sized moving truck to your house for the pickup. If you are just moving your clothing, it will be much less expensive to box them nicely and ship them UPS.

The best way to ship a hot tub is on its side. If you lay it flat, the liner could tear away from the frame if the moving truck hit a big bump.

Can you move a 5-6 room house using a 22 foot horse trailer that is 7 feet wide and 7 feet tall?

You probably could, but we would highly recommend that you don't. Using a truck rental would be better than putting your goods on a spring-ride horse trailer.

Another Northern California to Washington State move. We live in Fort Bragg, CA and see 70' trucks in town on a daily basis. Can you serve Fort Bragg, CA? We are moving to Olympia,WA

Ed,

Most areas west of Hwy 101 have access issues for moving trucks and vehicles over 24ft. Ft Bragg might be far enough south that it is outside the restriction zone to the north. Before making your reservation, you should check with local authorities to make sure that there will be no surprises on moving day.

I'm moving a 5' baby grand piano. Do you have the dolly to accommodate that? Also, how long to travel about 1100 miles?

Becky,

We can provide you with a 4 wheel dolly, but the best bet is to have a professional piano mover come out to load it onto the moving truck. They will have the right equipment and can prep the piano for the long distance move.

It will take approximately 3 days for an 1100 mile move.

I don't have an official list, but if it burns or blows up, you can't put it on a moving truck.

Two questions: One general, one specific.

1. Cost. What is the cost to use your service? Is it a flat fee or is it based on mileage? weight? or some combination?

2. My fiancee and I both own our own houses and have our own furniture. We will be moving into one a new house that we had built. Is it possible to load the truck at one address one day, then have the truck moved to another location aprox. 100 miles away and then continue loading at that location the next day before reaching it final unloading location?

Jack,
I can give you two answers:

1. Our prices are based on the amount of space that you use (linear feet) and the miles travelled.

2. Movex is the ONLY self-service mover that can accomplish two pickups on the same truck. The charge for a second pickup is only $95.

We look forward to helping you with your upcoming move.

Do you own your own fleet of trucks or do you contract out the move to other truck companies? I would worry about my belongings being transfered from one truck to the other and being lost along the way. My friend recently had this happen to her when she moved from Chicago to California and lost about 10 boxes of really valuable items.

Movex has a network of licensed, insured, and bonded trucking companies that are exclusively used by us. You don't have to worry about your shipment being transferred when using our service because the driver that picks up your shipment is the one that delivers it and it is never transferred. You have a private compartment on the truck that nobody else has access to.
Our competitors take your shipment to freight terminals where it is subject to reloading at freight docks... not exactly secure... and subject to damage from them loading freight with forklifts around your furniture.

You can be confident that Movex offers the safest, most reliable, self-service move in the industry.

Victor,
We always suggest moving your goods to a ministorage at destination. Leaving your goods on a truck for 3 months or in a POD out in the weather for 3 months is a recipe for disaster. We would love to help you with your transport, but won't participate in extended storage on trucks due to damage issues.

Hello,
We need to move kitchen cabinets from CA to VA. The cabinet maker typically doesn't ship as they service the local area. These cabinets MUST arrive in perfect condiditon. Is Movex an option for this kind of shipping?

Thank you,
Emily

Emily,
We are probably your BEST option for this. Movex would have an air-ride van equipped with furniture blankets and tie-down straps that we could take to the cabinet maker. They would pad and load everything for transit. You would unload it when it arrived in Virginia. Any other method of shipping is going to involve freight trucks and will be much more prone to damage.

Mike,
With the housing market doing so poorly, a lot of customers are in the same situation. You can lock in your reservations and give us the exact address up until the day of loading. If the address changes, there is no penalty as long as it is in the same city that we originally scheduled.

Where do you get your trucks and trailers?

Movex has a nationwide network of movers and logistics carriers that we monitor and dispatch. We are the largest "clearing house" for the moving and storage industry. When moving vans have extra space that is moving empty, the movers alert us to the extra space. Our proprietary software matches the available space to the available shipments. That is how we offer great pricing.
So, the trucks and trailers that we use are based all over the country and are in a constant state of motion. Movex makes sure that any carrier in its system is licensed, bonded, and insured. That information can be provided to you on request once you have been matched to your carrier.

Can you help?

Carol,
We could help, but I would suggest going to a Packaging Store or UPS for this. Our service is tied more to moving trucks which gives us minimum shipment sized that would be cost prohibitive for one piece (minimum shipment is $750).

How far in advance do I need to make a reservation for my move? I will be moving from Arkansas to Oregon in June.
Thanks.

Michele,
For a June move you can never make your reservation too early. All of the kids are out of school and everyone is moving that month. It is by far the busiest of our year. Dates near the 15th and the entire last week of June will be booked up well before May 15th gets here.
Book online now and avoid the hassle.

In a previous question, I had asked if the boxes had to be the moving boxes that you have to purchase or can they be just plain old boxes, meaning various shapes and sizes but you forgot to answer that question. If you would be so kind to answer this one also. Thanks for your time.

Carmen

Carmen,

Moving boxes, behind the grocery store boxes, totes, paper or plastic... whatever you have is what works best. With Movex you have the flexibility and convenience of a moving truck being brought to your home. You can load it however you wish (no flammables or explosives, of course).

Hi, it's me again. I was reading some of the questions and answers, but now I'm confused. Lori S from WV asked if you delivered the truck to the house, answer was no. Then how does it get delivered?

Thanks

Carmen

Carmen,
We do deliver the moving truck to your house and provide door-to-door service. Lori had asked if we provided trucks for the customers to drive. We actually provide the driver, fuel, furniture blankets, ramps, dolly, straps, and door-to-door service.
Sorry for the confusion.

EVERY saturday we'll need a U-Haul small truck, plus a driver to take our Street Market Booth Equipment and our merchandize, bakery goods, to the Street Market site,in downtown Boise, at 8 am and then return to pick us up at 2 pm - We will do all the loading and unloading necessary - Is this type of service possible to obtain from U-Haul ??
Please advise !!!
Please advise ASAP -

Allan,

I can't answer for Uhaul. I can tell you that our moving truck service has to cross state lines as we are licensed for interstate moving truck commerce.

I would call your local uhaul dealer and see if they have moving trucks available for that kind of service. If they don't, try a local mover.
Good Luck.

We have a 3BR house plus rec room & liv room, but not all furn will move. We will not move until abt Feb, 2008. I put in rate req from Hendersonville, TN to Shelbyville, KY, which is where we WANT to move to, but may have to settle for a diff location in Louisville area. Had to use a 2007 date to get quote. Just needing gen rate est now for planning. Question is: How much lead time do you normally need to confirm a moving date that will have to be "set in stone" so us 65 yr olds can arrange load/unload help in advance?

Don,
We can reserve and guarantee dates on your moving truck as far in advance as 60 days. The way that fuel has been fluctuating up and down, we really cannot book any more in advance of that.

hello..the apartment i am moving to is on a small narrow street that is relatively busy. i do not believe a 28' truck will be able to maneuver through that street. will ABF still aid in my shipment? will i need to set up alternate means of receiving my shipment? thanks!

G,
You need to make sure that there is adequate room for the truck to park so that you can load and unload it.

If there is not a space to park it, you will need to either carry it to the closest place that we can park a truck or you will need to get a smaller truck and shuttle it out.

People more than likely move in and out of your complex often. How do they do it? Do they have to shuttle? If not, we can park wherever they can. The drivers that we use are pros. If a truck can be parked there, our guys can do it.

Are your rates the same any day of the month? What if you need more space than you contracted or less? What is the least amount of time you allow for loading? How much prior notice to do you need in order to reserve your space?

Donna,

I will try to answer your questions in the order asked:
1. Our rates are the same good bargain any day of the week, including Saturday and Sunday. Our competitors increase rates on the weekends.
2. If you need more space on the moving van, you can get up to 4 extra feet on moving day (sometimes more)if available.
3. You can have as little or as much time as you need for loading. We will not inconvenience you with dropping a truck in front of your house and leaving it there for days.
4. Some days are already booked up for our moving trucks. The sooner the better for maing reservations.

Cheryl,

Great point. California has very strict rules about moving plants into the state. At the state lines, all commercial vehicles are checked for "agricultural" shipments. To prevent import of exotic species and gypsy moths, they will not allow household plants to be shipped without a special permit. If you want to contact the California Dept of Agriculture to get a permit, you can ship your plants. I would personally just buy new ones. What a pain!

I am looking for a company that will transport my belongings from New Jersey to British Columbia, Canada. Does your company provide this service? If not, could you point me in the right direction? Thank you.
Rachel

Rachel,

Truck rental and self-service moving across the border are very difficult indeed. With Homeland Security, you must have a certified manifest of what is on the truck that is crossing the border. Unfortunately, Movex is not able to provide that service. Truck rental companies cannot either. This leaves you with limited choices. I would recommend calling United Van Lines for international shipments. It will be very expensive, but you won't end up delayed for weeks at the border.

I am moving from London Ontario Canada to Taft, California. Do you do moves from Canada to the USA?

Kandy,
Because we are a self-service mover (you load and unload), we cannot move internationally. Homeland security will not allow commercial vehicles across borders without a certified trip manifest. For self-service moving, it is impossible to get one certified.
I would call a full-service mover that can provide you with the proper border documentation.

would you know where I could purchase a gadget which you could use to raise the corner of furniture to slip a "slider" under.

Ed,
The best thing to use is a good old-fashioned dolly. You need to have something sturdy to provide the leverage that you need. The "sliders" are great for moving furniture around in a room, but not good for loading moving trucks. We find that the best way to load a rental truck is using a 4 wheel dolly. We provide these on our moving vans.
Hope this helps.

how many blankets tiedowns. etc do you provide with rental?

The number of blankets that you get depends on how much space you order on the rental truck (actually we are using professional moving vans that are driven door-to-door for you). All of the trucks are well-equipped so that you have everything you need to make moving easier.

I will call you for a estm. soon

Alden,
It will not hurt your plasma TV to lay it down on a moving blanket to wrap it up. However, you should ship it upright. With Movex, we only use air-ride moving vans, so your plasma TV will get the softest ride possible. We also provide you with the moving blankets and straps to secure your items. Wrap your TV well in our blankets and use the straps to secure it to the wall of the truck. I want to take a minute to shamelessly plug that none of our competitors have any of the equipment and capabilities mentioned above. If you want your TV and furniture to arrive in the same condition as when you loaded it, Movex is the way to go. Even rental trucks do not offer the quality of equipment that we do.... and we do the driving!

Movex can get you to the border, but you will probably need a rental truck to make it into Mexico. Problem with that is crossing province lines in Mexico. Is there a minimum amount of mileage for you to provide moving services? Some self-service movers state that they don't generally provide service to customers needing to move less than 500 miles because it is not cost efficient. Will you move as little as 300 miles?

Tom,
As long as you are moving across state lines, we would be happy to help you. A 300 mile move is a great move for us and we can give you some outstanding prices. Make sure that you ask about renting the whole moving van. On a move that short, you can get a great deal on a lot of extra space.
